You will need some pizza bases (you can purchase these ready made or make them from scratch with your grandchildren if you prefer).

To make 1 x 26cm round pizza base:

• 120g self raising flour
• 120g self raising wholemeal flour
• a pinch of salt
• 50g butter (cut into cubes)
• approximately 150ml milkDescription

A great activity for grannies that need to feed hungry grandchildren.

You will need some pizza bases (you can purchase these ready made or make them from scratch with your grandchildren if you prefer).

To make 1 x 26cm round pizza base:

• Mix together the flours and salt in a mixing bowl. Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs.
• Add the milk and mix with a wooden spoon to soft dough.
• Knead lightly on a lightly floured surface until smooth. The dough is now ready to use.

Once you have your pizza base brush it lightly with a little olive oil and the rest is up to you and your grandchildren.
You will need a tomato sauce to spread across the base and a selection of toppings from which your grandchild can choose.

A possible selection may include some of the following:

• Mushrooms
• Olives
• Peas
• Sweetcorn
• Pepperoni
• Ham
• Green and red peppers
• Pineapple
• Cheddar cheese
• Mozzarella cheese
• Parmesan

Allow your grandchild to spread the tomato sauce evenly across the base and arrange any additional ingredients on the top.

Place the pizza on a tray in a preheated oven of 220 degrees C for 15 to 20 minutes.

Children can gain a lot from this type of activity as well as having a lot of fun.

If planning in advance, you can look up the recipe with your grandchildren and get them to help you make a shopping list of all the things you need. They may like to shop with you for the ingredients learning about money and the value of food along the way.
