Read a Story
Ingredients
- A good child's book - maybe your grandchild has a favourite book - if you need help refer to our Reading Room.
- Your grandchild's favourite toys, hand puppet for acting out the story.
- Paper and colouring pens for drawing scenes from the story.
Description
This is a simple but very effective way to pass the time. Young children always enjoy some one to one time with a granny who is reading one of their favourite stories. After reading a story, your grandchild may like to paint or draw a picture about the story or act out one part as one of the characters. Allow them to retell the story in their own words to a teddy or another sibling. Even your older grandchildren can enjoy and benefit from this activity. You could have a longer novel type book that you share with older grandchildren when they come round. Reading a new chapter each visit will provide a focus and something to look forward to.
