Scavenger Trail


Ingredients

  • A country or woodland walk
  • A carrier bag
  • A notepad and pen 

Description

Before you go out on a walk sit down and create a scavenger list. Think about the sorts of things you might come across and that your grandchild might like to collect. For instance you might have on your list things like  a white feather, a piece of bark, a red leaf, a piece of moss, a yellow flower etc. When the grandchild finds the item then collect it and put it in a bag to take home with you. Depending on the age of the grandchild they can also tick or cross off each item on the list as it is collected.

  • 3yrs + 

Duration

  • 30 minutes depending on where you are walking
  • Can be adjusted to suit the child or form part of a longer walk. 

Cost

  • Potentially free!
  • It may cost if you need to drive or catch a bus to where you want to walk, and also if you need to pay an entrance fee to a country park.

  • Hand eye coordination
  • Introduces grandchild to different textures, shapes.
