Background on this fab Valentines gift for mom or dad
“Never too little to love” tells the story of a tiny mouse called Tiny Too-Little and his quest to kiss a very tall giraffe called Topsy Too-Tall whom he loves very much indeed. In order to reach such a tall and elegant creature Tiny Too-Little embarks upon the grand task of building a tower out of all sorts of familiar household objects.
Each new page of this fab gift reveals a new item upon which the little mouse must attempt to stand (on tiptoes) in order to reach his destination and, indeed, his true love! Young children will enjoy turning the pages in order to discover the outcome of such bravery and determination. Likewise, what adult could resist sharing the delight of their child or grand kid as they follow the little characters’ plight with glee?

With this book comes many opportunities to delight and entertain your grand kid and in doing so to stimulate their thinking, prediction skills, power of recollection and of course good reading skills.
Prediction: A key reading skill for your grand kids
One reading skill is that of prediction. You can use this fab book quite easily to develop this skill. Ask your grand kid who it is they think that the mouse loves – remember to come back to this answer at the end of the book to see how close they got to the truth. Another use of prediction is to encourage your grand kids to guess what the mouse might use to stand on next, this time the answer is only a page turn away and so quite easily dealt with even by quite young kids.
Memory Game: Another way to use this book gift
Have you ever played the memory game “My mom went shopping”? It is a simple game which commences with Player One stating an object that mom bought. Player Two then repeats the phrase “My mom went shopping and bought …. They then say the item already mentioned by Player One and add an item of their own. The game continues in this fashion and the shopping list increases in length. A new take on this game would be to repeat the key phrase from Never Too little to Love -“He’s too little, even on tiptoes on a ……” You and your grand kid can have fun trying to remember all the things Tiny Too-Little used to build his tower- try adding some new ones!
An extra fab exercise between your grand kids and yourself
Discuss the pictures with your grand kids and ask them where they think the mouse obtained some of the objects from.
Overall developmental value of giving this fab book as a Valentine gift
Of course it goes without saying that by simply sharing a book with a young child their pre-reading and reading skills will naturally be enhanced. Any additional activities should always be fun.
