Homemade & basic recipe for Easter butter cookies from Bath, England.
This recipe has been passed to us from Nanny Barb.  Both of these recipes for Easter butter biscuits were passed to her from a recipe passed down through the generations in Bath, England.  Bath is an old Roman city which is famous for its hot bath spas.   It is unknown how many generations back these recipes have come from, but they are both easy and quick to make.  Making and baking the Easter butter cookie recipes will be big hits with the grandchildren, especially toddlers.

Quick & easy recipe:  Ingredients for Basic Easter holiday butter cookies (biscuits)
• 275g Plain Flour    
• 200g Butter    
• 150g Caster Sugar   
• 50g Currants  (may be left out)
• 2 Egg Yolks    
• 6 drops of Cassia Flouring oil (note warning below & on suppliers instructions)

CAUTION       Cassia flavoring oil has been used for centuries but it must be used with care similar to other essential oils, it will irritate the skin when undiluted. Wash off any oil with warm soapy water.  DO NOT allow contact with sensitive skin areas such as lips eyes etc. If you do irrigate well with water or saline solution and seek medical advice.   KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.  This oil may be used until it crystallizes on exposure to air with continued use.

Quick & easy recipe:  Basic Easter holiday butter cookies (biscuits)
• Mix the ingredients together.
• If the mix is a little dry add a little milk.
• Roll and cut to shape.
• Bake in a moderate oven for 10 to 15 minutes.

How to present the Easter butter cookies after baking
We prefer to present on a china plate with a light dusting of icing sugar.  Some people like to add to the Easter theme by cutting the butter cookies into crosses, rabbits or egg shapes.  These can then be decorated with ready made icing.
